Cheyenne’s Story: In November 2006, Cheyenne Broswell’s mom Virginia noticed that something was terribly wrong with her daughter. The little girl’s right eye was starting to curve in toward the middle of her face. Doctors at first thought Cheyenne needed glasses. Two weeks after Cheyenne began wearing her new glasses her eye got worse. Cheyenne’s mom immediately took her daughter an emergency room where a CT scan revealed devastating news. Doctors discovered a mass on Cheyenne’s brain stem. She was ambulanced to CHOC Children’s where she was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma.
“They can’t remove the tumor because it sits on the part of her brain that controls Cheyenne’s heart and lungs” says Virginia. “If they go in they’ll kill her. Our only option is continuous chemo and radiation. Chemo is keeping her alive.”
Cheyenne and her mom lived in Yucaipa, California. The little girl had been on chemo treatments since the day after Christmas 2006 until March 2009. The Orange County Ronald McDonald House became Cheyenne’s home during the weeks that she came to Orange County for chemo. In March 2009 Cheyenne passed away. She was surrounded by family and friends. She will forever be missed. |
